| From major metropolises
like the capital Beijing (Peking) and Shanghai where glitzy
high-rises stand alongside ancient architecture –
to majestic mountains, legacies of mighty emperors, the
Forbidden Palace and the Great Wall of China, there’s
many more cultural delights to be found in its remote
interior. |

| Beijing's
historic, cultural, and political preeminence dates back
nearly six centuries. Yet, in spite of devastating urban
renewal, modern Beijing continues to convey an imperial
grandeur. Beijing rewards the explorer. Most temples and
palaces have gardens and lesser courtyards that are seldom
visited. The
Temple of Heaven's vast
grounds are a pleasure year-round -- and enchanting during
a snowstorm. |

| The Forbidden
City and Tiananmen
Square represent the heart of Beijing from imperial
and tourist perspectives. A visit to Beijing is incomplete
without a side trip to the Great
Wall, one of China's most important sights. Within
a few hours' drive of the city limits you can visit the
wall at three different points, plus a cornucopia of other
historical and natural wonders. Beyond the wall is a valley
beautiful enough to serve as the burial ground for 13
Ming emperors known as Ming
Tomb. Also in the valley you can find one of the
world's premier paleontological sites, Beijing's oldest
bridge, and several important temples. |

| Xian,
the eternal city, records the great changes of the Chinese
nation just like a living history book. The cultural and
historical significance of the area, as well as the abundant
relics and sites, help Xian enjoy the laudatory title
of "Natural History Museum". The Museum of Terra
Cotta Warriors and Horses is praised as "the
eighth major miracle of the world", Mausoleum of
Emperor Qin Shi Huang is listed on the World Heritage
List, and the City
Wall of the Ming Dynasty is the largest and most
intact Ming Dynasty castle in the world. The night life
in Xian has a unique glamour. Traditional ways include
enjoying the night scenery around the Bell Tower, taking
part in a Tang Dynasty Dinner Show, strolling on the ancient
Big Wild Goose Pagoda Square and watching the music fountain
performance |
