Kaziranga National Park ( Assam, North Eastern India)

Kaziranga National Park a world heritage site is famous for the Great Indian one horned rhinoceros, the landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, tall elephant grass, rugged reeds, marshes & shallow pools. It has been declared as National Park in 1974.

Kaziranga National Park is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. It is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds.

The park is open from November to April. Tourists can take rides on elephants to move around the park or cruise in a boat on the Brahmaputra along the park.


Travel Information:

By Air: The nearest airport is situated at Guwahati, which is 217 kms. away from the park. The other airport is located at Jorhat, 97 kms. from Kaziranga.

By Train: The nearest railhead is Furkating, situated 75 kms. away from Kaziranga National Park.

By Road: The main gate for Kaziranga Wildlife Sanctuary, at Kohora on the National Highway No. 37, consists of a handful of cafes and a small local market. ASTC and private buses stop here on their way to and from Guwahati, Tezpur and Upper Assam.

Best Time to Visit: November to April is the best time for visit in Kaziranga national park.



Bandipur National Park ( Karnataka, South India)

Coverage Area : 87,420 hectares

Bandipur National Park is a beautiful forest reserve located in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. Established in 1973 as a tiger reserve under Project Tiger, it was once a private hunting reserve for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore. The park spans an area of 874 square kilometers, protecting several species of India's endangered wildlife. Together with the adjoining Nagarhole National Park, Mudumalai National and Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary, it is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve totaling 2,183 sqaure kilometers making it the largest protected area in southern India.

Bandipur has supports a good population of endangered and vulnerable species like Indian elephants, gaurs, tigers, sloth bears, muggers, Indian rock pythons, four-horned antelopes and dholes.

Travel Information:

By Air: The nearest airport is situated at Bangalore, which is 205 kms. away from the park.

By Train: The nearest railhead is Mysore, situated 65 kms away.

By Road: Bandipur National Park is located on the highway connecting Mysore and the hill station of Ootacamund (Ooty). It takes 2½ hours to reach Bandipur forest from Mysore and about 3 hours from Ooty.

Best Time to Visit: October to April is the best time for visit in Bandipur national park.
