Highlights of places

Re-live the glory of the past as you wade through the street of one of the oldest living cities in the world – Delhi. Every conqueror attempted to invade Delhi and make it his capital. The British completed the construction of New Delhi in 1931 as the capital of imperial India making it the eighth city, designed by two British architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker. It is, therefore, not surprising that the monuments of Delhi successfully mirror the development of the architectural styles in the country.

The erstwhile capital of the Chandela Kings, Khajuraho is famous for its magnificent temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and the Jain tirthankars. Despite the fact that they were dedicated to different Hindu gods Shiva, Vishnu and Jain saints, they followed the same architectural style. The decorations, the exquisitely carved sculptures, with which the temples are so liberally embellished have made Khajuraho famous. The divine sculptures in these temples are a tribute to life itself. There is an astonishing profusion of individual figures of gods, goddesses, and voluptuous women, mythical beasts, couples in erotic poses all carved in minute detail. The murals depict the life and times of the Chandelas and celebrate the erotic state of being.

Panna National Park is a very well accessible and yet less explored one. The Ken River, which flows through the Reserve from south to north, is the home for long shouted crocodile (Gharial) and Marsh Crocodile (mugger) and other aquatic fauna. Ken is one of the sixteen perennial rivers of M.P. and is truly the life-line of the Reserve. It offers some of the most spectacular scenery while it meanders for about 55 km. through the Reserve the region, which is famous for its diamonds, is also home to some of the best wildlife species. With luck one can see the majestic tiger or the elusive sloth bear here. The numerous waterfalls in this area are popular picnic spots

Bandhavgarh is set amidst the Vindhyan Mountain range in Madhya Pradesh. The Bandhavgarh National Park is home to the famous White Tigers of Rewa. Within the Park, stands tall the ruins of Bandhavgarh Fort, believed to be over 2000 years old. The Fort has a large number of caves belonging to the pre-historic period. Today, Bandhavgarh Wildlife Sanctuary is known for having one of the densest populations of Tigers in the country. Among the other wild attractions include Nilgai, Chital, Chinkara, Gaur, Sloth Bears and Wild Boar along with some 250 species of birds.
